Christmas Message 2023

Christmas Message 2023

Dear Students, Faculty, Alumni and Friends of Wittenborg

https://www.wittenborg.eu/christmas-message-2023.htm

In the build-up to the festive season of Christmas, with the short, dark days and long nights, it is a time when we can take a moment to unwind, spend time with either family or friends, or both. Some of us will stay at home, and others are lucky enough to travel.

It’s also a time to reflect on the past year, as we prepare for a new one, with new opportunities and possibilities, maybe even a new phase in our own lives. Some of us will be thinking about how we can improve our lives, while some of us will think about how we can improve our contributions, our networks, our friendships.

Looking back on 2023, we have had a productive and stimulating year… re-accrediting our bachelor's programmes for the 4th time since 2006, hosting the European Sales Competition in the summer, the first Job Fair Central, launching a new Annual Globalisation Conference to be held in 2024, to name a few examples. We closed the year 2023 with the biggest ever university-wide SDG1 project week, in which around 300 students and staff participated, in Apeldoorn and both our Amsterdam and Munich locations. We (of course) retained our status as the 'Most International Business School in the Netherlands', and that’s thanks to you!

Should Virtual Exchanges Be Counted in EU Student Mobility Numbers?

Wittenborg Staff Members Share Perspectives

https://www.wittenborg.eu/should-virtual-exchanges-be-counted-eu-student-mobility-numbers.htm

In recent years, the availability of online courses and virtual exchange activities has increased significantly, driven by technological advancements and dramatic events like the COVID-19 pandemic, Brexit and the conflict in Ukraine, which have hindered students' participation in in-person activities. This is prompting professionals, researchers and organisations to reassess the role of virtual exchanges in higher education.

An article published by PIE News in September discusses a briefing recently released by the European University Association (EUA), which urges ministers to reconsider how student mobility is counted in the European Higher Education Area. Based on the fact that the region has repeatedly failed to reach its target of 20% of students participating in study abroad opportunities, the briefing encourages virtual exchanges to be counted in EU mobility numbers.

School Plans to Build Cutting-Edge Campus Within City’s Future ‘Learning District’

https://www.wittenborg.eu/looking-future-wittenborgs-expansion-plans-aligned-apeldoorns-goals.htm

Wittenborg has taken the first steps towards developing a new, cutting-edge, expanded and sustainable campus near Apeldoorn’s railway station, just opposite the current Spoorstraat Building. The school is working to reach a consensus shortly on the project with the land's current owner, a construction company.

With construction planned to take place between 2025 and 2027, the 6,000 m2 campus is currently at the design stage. It will be multifunctional, including all facilities for the school as well as student accommodation, workspaces for start-ups and scale-ups, a short-stay facility and available spaces for social initiatives.

The project embodies values such as sustainability, innovation and community-centric design. Key features include a zero-emissions framework, circular economy principles, versatile accommodation and a focus on being a cultural and community hub.

In addition to being aligned with Wittenborg’s expansion plans, this initiative shows the school’s commitment to contributing to the growth and development of Apeldoorn. The new campus will be located at the heart of Apeldoorn’s ‘Learning District’, an area located in the Veldhuis neighbourhood, which will be completely revitalised by the municipality.
