Hands-on Sustainability Learning Connects Adults, Educators and Community Partners

On 28 May, Wittenborg and Vadercentrum ADAM brought together participants in The Hague for a Green4ADU workshop focused on sustainability, wellbeing and social inclusion.

The workshop forms part of the Erasmus+ Green4ADU project, a European Cooperation Partnership in adult education coordinated by Wittenborg. The project runs from 1 November 2024 to 31 October 2026 and brings together partners from Germany, Italy, Greece and Spain to develop innovative learning pathways that strengthen green competences among low-skilled adult learners.

At its heart, Green4ADU responds to the growing need for accessible learning that supports both environmental awareness and employability in the green economy. The project focuses on equipping adults with transversal skills that meet the demands of a changing labour market, while also promoting wellbeing and social inclusion.

Vadercentrum ADAM welcomed participants into its community space in The Hague, creating an open and inclusive environment for learning and exchange.

Representatives from Wittenborg opened the session by introducing the institution and outlining the aims of the Green4ADU project.

Participants took part in a series of interactive activities, including an energy-saving quiz by Marcus Banai representing Stichting Energiegelijk, a digital e-learning platform developed by Wittenborg's Cha-Hsuan Liu, and a hands-on recycling workshop where they created wallets from plastic waste using the Plastic Wallet DIY methodology.

A World Café discussion encouraged participants to rotate between thematic tables, sharing ideas on everyday sustainability challenges, effective green training methods, and ways to improve communication around environmental issues at community level.

The workshop generated valuable insights for the Green4ADU project team, which will inform the development of future learning materials and recommendations. The collaboration between Wittenborg and Vadercentrum ADAM highlighted how higher education institutions and community organisations can work together to create practical, inclusive learning experiences rooted in real community needs.

Overall, the workshop contributed to the wider aims of Green4ADU: promoting lifelong learning, sustainability, and social inclusion through practical and accessible learning pathways.

As the project moves into its final phase, it continues to gain strong momentum across its partner network.
