Artificial intelligence expert, Dr Larry Lucardie, captivated students this week by cutting through the complexity which many people associate AI with, and showing how it can be applied efficiently in business. He even demonstrated how anyone can build an app without IT knowledge or a programmer.

Lucardie, who is the CEO of Knowledge Values, was the guest speaker at the kick-off meeting for Block 5 Project Week at Wittenborg University of Applied Sciences, which revolves around artificial intelligence. Lucardie's company has delivered AI to many companies, banks, municipalities and other government agencies.

The Challenges and Opportunities of Educating the Next Generation

“We’re just sad kids, who put all of our hope in the fact that putting our headphones in makes us feel we’re not alone.” (Anon. n.d.)

That statement hit home; it resonated a deep truth about growing up today. However, it tantalisingly holds an inherent solution to the same. The children and the teenagers are the future, now; they are a solution, in the making, today!

New to the Netherlands? Well, welcome aboard.  Read up to find out some additional tips on how to better settle down in the Netherlands, and particularly in Apeldoorn.  These are useful tips based on my own experiences and that of my friends.

Are you thinking of moving out of the accommodation provided by Wittenborg?  If you are, my advice is, start searching early.  It’s not easy to rent a room or a flat at low price.  Even if there is, it might be a little bit far from Wittenborg campuses, so you might have to take a bus or train – which, by the way, can add to your transportation costs.  Frankly speaking, transportation cost is quite high in the Netherlands and students don’t even get discounted fares.  So, choose wisely the area of your new accommodation.

Update Corona Virus for Students and Staff at Wittenborg University of Applied Sciences (02022020)

Update Corona Virus for Students and Staff at Wittenborg University of Applied Sciences (02022020)

Update Corona Virus for Students and Staff at Wittenborg University of Applied Sciences (02022020)Introduction by Peter Birdsall, President of Wittenborg

Wittenborg is taking the current concerns about the Novel Corona Virus extremely seriously and wishes to ensure all its students and staff that it is monitoring the situation on a day-to-day, and if necessary on an hour-to-hour basis. There is a focus on China, at this moment. This may change.

Of our 1000 students, approximately 10% are Chinese and as is custom every year some students return home to their families in China for Lunar New year. 2020 was no exception and Wittenborg has students who are currently in China, some are returning back to the Netherlands, others are not able to do so, due to restrictions.

Wittenborg is taking all possible measures to gain contact with all its Chinese students and support them where possible. Moral support is extremely necessary, as this Coronavirus is not a 'Chinese problem' however a global risk and global problem.

China is however currently confronted with the task of controlling the outbreak. This may change, if other countries develop outbreaks, and it is important for us to always keep in perspective that when it comes to illness, disease and health, these are a responsibility for all nations and all mankind, and it is our duty to support each-other.

Many students and staff at Wittenborg will be worried about the well being of loved ones, parents, grandparents and other family members. Let us be shining examples of good global citizens and give our support where needed.

Finally, I would like to warn against so-called 'fake news' please refer to the official Dutch sites of the ministries, the BBC News website or app, and for latest official figures: this site

Data analysis is becoming a ubiquitous (widespread) phenomenon in the business world and as future business graduates, it is pertinent that you pick up this subject and pick it up well.  It is also one of the vital components in your Graduation Assignment as it will help you to analyse and interpret your data in your findings.  So, if you think you don’t have to master it, or if you think you can ignore this subject, you are unfortunately wrong.
